Setting up a MetaMask Wallet (Hot Wallet)

The most widely used hot wallet is Metamask: https://metamask.io/, which is our recommendation for a hot wallet that can not only hold your cryptocurrency assets on several chains, but allow you to buy cryptocurrencies via decentralised exchanges, or use your cryptocurrencies for other purposes (such as Decentralised Finance (DeFi) which you may get into down the line).

It will simply prompt you to ‘Install MetaMask for Chrome’ (or your browser of choice), simply hit that button, and on the next page, click ‘Add to Chrome’ (or your browser of choice), then add the extension via the ‘Add extension’ button: 

The extension will then be added to your browser and a new webpage will appear in which you can finally set up your MetaMask wallet – simply follow the instructions in creating an account, providing a password – then MetaMask itself will run you through how to secure your wallet, including a video. Please watch this! Super important you secure your wallet.

This includes learning about your secret recovery phrase that is important to save. Ensure you do this. Hit the ‘Secure my wallet (recommended)’ button, in which your secret recovery phrase will appear – save this on your PC, or somewhere of your choice straight away. 

It will then ask you to randomly enter 3 of the 12 words in your secret recovery phrase in order to confirm it. Go ahead and do this, referencing the secret recovery phrase you just saved on your PC or put down in a place of your choice.

Congratulations, your MetaMask wallet is now created!
