FIFA, the organisation overseeing global soccer tournaments, plans to release its exclusive collection of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) before the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, partnering with the blockchain company Modex.
As per the announcement on December 11th, a debut set of 100 NFTs will launch on December 15th, offering an opportunity to acquire tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. Alongside these, 900 additional digital collectibles will be released this month on the Polygon network and OpenSea. These will include memorable instances from the ongoing tournament and digital renditions of collectible items.
“Scheduled to kick off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 12, the FIFA Club World Cup brings together seven of the world’s greatest football teams. The champions of FIFA’s six confederations are all participating,” FIFA stated. These NFTs will be accessible on FIFA’s dedicated platform, FIFA+ Collect, which was introduced in September 2022 and operates through Algorand’s technology
“Digital collectibles increase the ways in which fans can interact with their favourite players, teams, and the game they love, and we’re honoured to support FIFA in realising this goal,” commented Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex.
Since its establishment, the FIFA+ Collect platform has overseen 11 NFT releases, producing 909,255 digital collectibles held by 16,448 individuals. The platform has recorded a cumulative trading volume of $2.4 million in both primary and secondary NFT markets. Nevertheless, FIFA+ Collect Info warns, ”Mint Volume can be misleading as FIFA+ Collect Info cannot distinguish the packs obtained for free in challenges from the packs purchased with USDC.”
