Over the weekend, Donald J. Trump reaffirmed his growing support for cryptocurrency, expressing on social media his openness and positivity towards crypto companies and the burgeoning industry.

With both sides of the upcoming presidential election vying for pro-crypto voters, Trump emphasised the importance of the United States leading the field, stating on Truth Social before his address at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington, D.C., that there is no room for second place.

“I am very positive and open minded to cryptocurrency companies and all things related to this new and burgeoning industry… Our country must be the leader in the field, there is no second place.”

Trump subsequently aimed criticism at his opponent, stating, “crooked Joe Biden, on the other hand, the worst president in the history of our country, wants it to die a slow and painful death.”

Washington’s stance on crypto has notably warmed as Trump actively courts pro-crypto voters. Initially, he made supportive comments at a Mar-a-Lago dinner, followed by his campaign’s acceptance of crypto donations on Tuesday, fulfilling his promise to be the first major party candidate to embrace digital currencies.

In response to Trump’s pro-crypto stance, the Biden administration and the usually crypto-averse SEC appear to be softening their opposition. While the White House expressed reservations about a crypto market structure bill passed by the House, Biden refrained from threatening a veto. The bill proceeded to the Senate. Additionally, the SEC’s approval of key regulatory filings for ether ETFs on Thursday marks a significant shift, considering such approval was deemed highly unlikely just a month ago.
